This item is required for the Residential Safety Treads, Residential Walkway Mats, and Industrial Stair Mats. This item is not required for Industrial Walkway Mats. Every group of heated stair mats and residential walkway mats requires a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) controller to connect the system to an electrical outlet. If you don't buy a GFCI controller, your mats won't work. One GFCI controller is required for each location that you have a heated stair system. This item, HR-P, should be used for 120V stair mats. The GFCI controller contains a watertight connector that will allow it to connect to the first or last stair mat in your system. The controller is rainproof, so it can be left outside for the entire winter season. Controller cord is 6 ft long. If your electrical outlet is further than 6 ft away, consider using a watertight cable extender (see Model No. HR-Ext25).
